Summer Art in Nature Camp
Summer is a time to explore, create, and learn by doing! Our summer Art and Nature Camp gives children a VERY hands-on, full-of-life, outdoor summer experience they will never forget. In fact, a large number of students love our camp so much that they re-enroll for a second session with us— the same summer!
The plants all around us feed and sustain many butterfly species. We hunt for butterfly eggs in the morning by looking at specific host plants in our gardens. We prepare a "shopping list" with the children and gather daily caterpillar food from our own gardens. We feed our hungry caterpillars till they're plump and they start roaming to find a place to form their chrysalis. It is an amazing transformation to see! Most students think the most exciting part of the butterfly life cycle occurs when the chrysalis splits and out climbs a new butterfly—that is until they experience releasing butterflies back into the wild.
As if that weren't enough, we spend a lot of time thinking and making art about the experience. Our art projects are unmatched. They are designed to bring out your child's creativity and imagination while honing their observation skills and material handling abilities.
Upon completing a large scale butterfly painting last summer, one student commented, "I never knew I could see this well!"
